UW Credit Union buys former Borders bookstore building
26.07.11
Switching from literature to loans, and music CDs to monetary
CDs, the two-story building that housed the Borders bookstore at
3750 University Ave. will become a credit union branch by the end
of the year.
UW Credit Union bought the
building earlier this month for $5.8 million.
“I suspect there’s no one in the country that turned around a
Borders bookstore faster than we did,” said John Flad, president of
Flad Development, co-owner of the building.
UW Credit Union’s corporate offices and main branch are just one
block away, at 3500 University Ave. That building will stay open
and continue to house administrative services while investment
services and the branch office will move down the street to the
first floor of the former Borders building, said credit union chief
financial officer Brad McClain. Five drive-up lanes will be built
at the back, or north side, of the structure.
