I am wanting to open up a savings account and add a percentage of my paycheck each month. I am in the Houston, Texas area and I would like to have your opinions as to which bank has the best savings account rates and so forth. Thanks!

Credit Unions are not FDIC insured. When comparing banks, I use bankrate.com, they compare interest rates on savings accounts, credit cards, and mortgages. Some accounts require you to have $5,000 or $50,000 to get the best rate.

Currently?? nothing even remotely close to 8%!
you can invest in a along term CD? (3-5 yrs) but that still only pays about 3.70% (i wouldn't recommend investing for more the 5 years, rates can go up..then you'd be stuck with a lower rate for years)
