Refinance mortgages rates started to inch up lately and apparently this led to a decline in the number of mortgage applications filed during the past week, according to an industry group.
The Mortgage Bankers Association said on Wednesday, that US mortgage applications fell 2.7% for the week ending March 23. The refinance index tumbled 4.6% since the previous week, and now it’s down for six straight weeks.
The refinance share of total mortgage applications decreased to 71.9% from the previous 73.4%, it had a week earlier. Actually, refinance activity has reached its lowest level since July 2011.
