The BoC has indicated that they are not necessarily move interest rates in the same direction as the US Fed.
For the currency to depreciate vis a vis the US dollar, we're going to have to lower the interest rate more than the US Fed lowers

Turbulent recent weeks in the world economy has been playing havoc with interest rates as the Bank of Canada was one of several global central banks to place their preferential interest rates to try to stem the economic downturn. The typical reaction of the big banks is to follow the lead of Bank of Canada and lower their prime rates – by a similar amount, although it did not happen last week. Royal Bank, TD and Scotiabank, along with the rest just dropped its rate by 0.25% in the first against the decrease of 0.50% by the federal government. This resulted in Canada’s mortgage rates actually increasing which in turn goes against the normal market behavior. This translates into a very interesting question – it really affects mortgage rates in Canada
While the US remains mired in debt and slogs through a subpar economic recovery, Canada is moving ahead steadily. Its unemployment rate peaked at a little over 8.5% and is now 7.4%, and there were no bank bailouts.
Is the interest rate an introductory one, and when might it change? Is it tied to the Bank of Canada's prime rate, which is expected to start moving up later this year? If there's a cashback incentive involved, are there any instances when you would be
