Is Charles Schwab a safe institution to put my money into today?

I am closing my Washington Mutual accounts and transferring my business to Charles Schwab, which has a high yield investor's checking account available. They seem to be a reputable company, and I have not heard any negative news about them lately. Are

I sure hope so, because I just transferred my investments to Schwab as well, my new financial adviser works though Schwab but not for Schwab if that makes any sense...

A resume client I am working with is curious about working for Charles Schwab by joining the broker training program. What can one expect to earn (in salary) once they are licensed and out of the training program?

Probably not more than about $ 40,000 since they do not get commissions.

Three out of four said they expect the trend of advisers' leaving large firms for RIAs to continue.

In fact, half of the respondents said that they find the idea of becoming a registered investment adviser appealing. Advisers under 40 are even more interested, with 65% calling the idea appealing.

But close to 40% of the respondents said that they are uncertain about how they would maintain their commission

First quarter 2011 earnings came in at 20 cents per share, a penny ahead of the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 19 cents. This also compares favorably with the year-ago quarter’s earnings of 11 cents. 

Charles Schwab’s net income for the reported quarter stood at $243 million, up 84% compared with $132 million in the prior-year quarter. However, if one time charges are taken into consideration for the first quarter of 2010, net income for the reported quarter saw an enormous jump from $6 million in the prior-year quarter.
