Home buyer assistance program expands citywide
16.09.11
"It is a revision to the program," Cantu said. "What we want to
do is help people purchase safe, decent, affordable housing."
A grant of $100,000 was provided to the city for the coming
fiscal year and any funds left over from 2011, which could total
about $20,000, will be rolled over, Cantu said. With that, they
hope to assist between 24 and 30 individuals, he said.
To apply for the assistance, individuals must be considered
low-income, be a legal U.S. resident, have been living in Midland
for at least a month and be a first-time home buyer. The program
works to engage the family being assisted and requires they attend
a home buyer training course and put in an investment of their own
to obtain the home, Cantu said.
